<p>Dr. McAnalley, working with Dr. H. Reginald McDaniel, saw that &#8220;mannose,&#8221; the carbohydrate in Manapol,&#174; was listed as one of those eight essential carbohydrates. He hypothesized that the presence of the mannose in the Manapol&#174; could be leading to enhanced cell-to-cell communication. He realized that this could explain the positive results that were not directly linked to immune function. He realized that the proper cellular &#8220;words&#8221; were essential for the effective manifestation of the genetic code (your body&#8217;s blueprint) and could, thereby, have a crucial role in every aspect of the maintenance of optimal health.</p>
<p>Since the feedback from people after adding mannose (via Manapol&#174;) to the diet had been so positive, Dr. McAnalley and Dr. McDaniel decided to put together a dietary blend of all the essential carbohydrates associated with cell-to-cell communication (including Manapol&#174;). Maybe a lack of time or a lack of planning is to blame for forcing this upon us. Maybe something came up beyond our control that is making us resort to this as a last minute meal decision. Whatever the reason, you will be ordering your next meal by talking into a plastic clown from your car window.</p>
<p>The problem with this is, you know that fast food is notorious for very high fat content and very high calorie count while at the same time being very low in nutrition. Well, as luck would have it, there are actually some things that you can order from a few of the popular fast food places that are somewhat on the healthier side. The main thing is to stay away from the fat laden side orders like the fries and shakes, and go with the broiled and grilled items. Here are some examples of the better fast food choices:</p>
<p>At burger king, go with the BK broiler chicken sandwich or the broiled chicken salad. Also not too bad is the whopper, but it is imperative to order it dry and without cheese and add your own ketchup. All the sauces on the whopper are where most of the extra fat and calories come from.</p>
<p>At KFC, stay with the tender roast chicken and go with the skinless white meat. Fried chicken from anywhere should be avoided like the plague.</p>
<p>At McDonalds, the grilled chicken deluxe and the grilled chicken salad are the best choices. Since just about everything else here is fried or deep fried, these are really your only good choices.</p>
<p>At subway you have a few good choices like the turkey breast sub and the sweet onion teriyaki chicken sub. Most anything from their &#8220;low fat&#8221; menu is good, but don&#8217;t add cheese or fattening condiments like mayo and stick with the 6 inch ones.</p>
<p>At taco bell, the grilled chicken burrito and the grilled chicken soft taco are good choices. Any of their items made with grilled chicken are ok, just watch out for any added fattening sauces or fried items that might be used in the item.</p>
<p>At Wendy&#8217;s, the grilled chicken sandwich and the grilled chicken salad are two very good choices. Here you can also get a baked potato on the side but watch what you fill it with.</p>
<p>As a rule of thumb, always avoid anything fried like French fries or onion rings as these items can add as much as 450 extra calories to your meal which is usually as much as or more than what their signature burgers pack. Items like the milk shakes also come with nearly as many calories as the signature burgers so be careful not to order them as well. Always order your food without the dressings, sauces, mayo or cheese. These only add unwanted fat calories to your item. You can always ask for fat-free dressings and condiments like ketchup and add them yourself when you get your food.</p>
<p>All fast food is not completely off limits, even if you are making an effort to watch what you eat. Just make eating fast food an occasional thing and be aware of what you order when eating there. When in doubt, always go with broiled or grilled chicken items, and avoid most of the sides unless you know they are good choices like salads or baked potato&#8217;s.</p>

One important issue regarding vitamins is that some foods lose their vitamin content when they&#8217;re not handled properly.</p>
<p>Raw is better. It&#8217;s a simple fact of fruits and vegetables that cooking tends to damage vitamin content. If you have the choice between eating raw apples and applesauce, you&#8217;ll find that raw apples generally retain more of their natural vitamins. But are those raw vegetables and fruits always going to provide you with the vitamins you need? Not necessarily.</p>
<p>Read the label of processed foods. Many manufacturers fortify their processed foods with vitamins. In some cases, you may find that the applesauce actually has more vitamins and a higher content than a raw apple. It&#8217;s important to note that the vitamins you&#8217;re getting from the applesauce aren&#8217;t natural to the apple, but they&#8217;re present nonetheless.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s easy to tell the vitamin content of your favorite breakfast cereal, the fruit juice you had for a mid-morning snack or that granola bar you had on the way home from work. You tend to watch what you eat, so you also read those labels to be sure you&#8217;re eating snacks that are high in the vitamins you most need for your body. But what happens when you grab an apple? Most fresh fruits don&#8217;t come with a label so it&#8217;s sometimes difficult to know just what you&#8217;re eating. You&#8217;ll find some very helpful charts that list vitamin content of most fruits and vegetables, but keep some important facts in mind.</p>
<p>&#8226;	Harvesting and handling matter. The harvesting time and practices may enhance or decrease the actual vitamin content of individual fruits and vegetables.</p>
<p>&#8226;	Variety counts. An apple isn&#8217;t necessarily an apple. Different varieties have different vitamin content. The same is true of most fruits and vegetables.</p>
<p>&#8226;	Cooking practices make a difference. Though fried vegetables will typically have a lower vitamin content than raw, the type of oil used to do the frying also makes a difference. Different oils have different vitamins and add (or detract) from the vegetables.</p>
<p>If you&#8217;re really looking to get the most from particular vegetables, fruits and other products, take time to do some research into the particular food you&#8217;re interested in or the vitamins you&#8217;re looking to increase. You may be surprised to find out that handling, cooking and choosing make a big difference in the vitamins you actually consume.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Mangosteen (also known as mangostin and guttiferae garcinia mangostana L) is the fruit of the mangosteen tree. The tree is quite slow in growth but can achieve heights of anything from 20 to 80 feet. It is typically thick-leaved and grows exclusively in tropical countries with climate such as in India, the East Indies, Thailand and the Philippines.</p>
<p>It requires a considerable amount of moisture to thrive. The leaves are of leathery texture and can grow to a length of ten inches or more. It is believed to have originated from the Sunda Islands and is most extensively cultivated in Thailand, Kampuchea, Burma and Singapore.</p>
<p>There have been repeated attempts to cultivate it in places like Queensland and Africa, but these have never been very successful. The mangosteen tree was first introduced in America in 1906, when the United States Department of Agriculture received seeds from Java. Attempts to cultivate it in California, Florida and even Hawaii were not very &#8220;fruitful&#8221;, since the tree refuses to acclimatize itself.</p>
<p>Essentially, the mangosteen tree is very partial to tropical climates with temperatures above 40 F and below 100 F. It requires extremely high atmospheric humidity to thrive and a steady, abundant supply of ground water. Such conditions are hard to replicate in any non-tropical country.</p>
<p>A curious fact about its seeds is that they do not require fertilization in the accepted sense of the word &#8211; rather, they germinate entirely on their own. In fact, they could be termed integrated embryos in their own right. They sprout within a period of 20 days and the process is usually complete within 40 to 43 days of germination.</p>
<p>Cultivation is most successful when the seeds are planted at the beginning of the tropical rainy season, with a minimum spacing of 30 feet between individual trees.</p>
