Freerunner, the telecommunications company headed by Owen Geddes of The Cloud fame, is looking forward to connecting a number of remote areas by broadband by offering as many as 50 free-to-use WiFi hotspots in a number of locations across the UK. The scheme, funded by the company itself, is to be put in place by installing free wireless nodes to community-based locations. In addition, a reduction in WiFi prices in commercial venues has also been suggested to improve the broadband coverage in remote areas.

Freerunner is also engaged in a charity service through JustGiving.com, which entails providing of free WiFi to 500 UK charity locations.

Geddes explained the scheme, saying they would install hotspots irrespective of the location. He said the company was also trying to find commercial sponsors to take the plan to other paces of the country. The scheme aims to provide people with their basic right of equality by being given proper access to the internet. It is expected to fulfil the expectations of the company and actualize the dream of providing the whole of Britain with at least 2Mb broadband.

The company has invited applications from people wanting WiFi connectivity in their areas. It expects the applicants to suggest accessible locations for the installation of the hotspots. Requests can be made through a call on 0800 860 0815 or by mailing the preferred location as well as the reason for such preference to connectmenow@freerunr.com, in around 150 words.
